Using your phone's GPS system, Spott allows users either to browse by movie/show or their location to master interesting details of that movie, show, or actors.
For example, Stapleton International Airport (now Denver IA) was the airport in the movie "Die Hard 2" with Bruce Willis. Up until recently, I had no idea that this hotel in the movie "Dumb and Dumber" been the Stanley Hotel, that was also the inspiration and setting for Stephen King's popular book and movie, "The Shining".
Along with giving users the opportunity to see their town in a very whole new way, to keep your movies with the app, plus you'll be able to send in your personal photo from a famous locale where you live.
The interface for Spott is simple to manuever around - you can choose movies or shows by title, location, or movies that are near you. Obviously the nearby feature is the foremost, particularly when you're traveling or recently moved. As noted, movie locations near my new city of Denver along with the state of Colorado are pretty popular.
Another highlight is to be able to view stills from movies, though for a few there aren't up to you would find in the event you did a simple Google search, and as mentioned, it is possible to buy DVDs of movies through the app. While a fascinating concept, I'm not really sure if I want to purchase movies out and about. It would oftimes be better if you could watch said movie instead.
One downside to this app could be the fact that there aren't a lot of Spotts yet. For instance, as being a former Tucson High Badger, my state they fame is that the movie "Can't Buy Me Love" with pre-McDreamy Patrick Dempsey was filmed at our school, but I couldn't find a listing when putting in my former zipcode. High point though is I learned elements of Casablanca were filmed within the nearby town of Flagstaff, it's nice to view that a classic black and white film is listed.
There are also downsides, such as actor listings, which are meh at best, however, this is when the Spotters thing comes in. Too bad this app didn't appear before I moved.
As a show and TV fan who occurs love trivia, this is actually a pretty good app to have should you've got an Android phone. Definitely the highlight of the app is to view a range of locations of different film scenes, though I think most people will be interested in where their hometown or current town factors in numerous movies and shows.
A disappointment is a few areas miss, that may be annoying for users who know a specific movie or show was filmed in their neck from the woods. But to counter this, users can supply images and upload the crooks to Spott. This is actually a fantastic social interaction that gets fans involved as they proudly flaunt their cities and states.
I think a huge let down could be the fact that this app isn't free; with only a small amount of information, this should be a free app that gets upgraded to purchase more expenses (like the ability to buy and download movies). Luckily, the purchase price isn't too hefty -- merely a dollar plus some change, so that it might actually be well worth the purchase only if to hope Inochi builds up the app with fan interaction and loyalty.
