English Movies 2011 Free Download! The one thing I love about moving into Los Angeles is the number of revival houses and single screen concert halls you can still check out. I'm not discussing your multiplexes which are playing the most up-to-date Hollywood blockbusters, I'm discussing those historic cinemas that have fun playing the classic movies we loved watching when we were we were young. Many of these films we first watched on television or rented them on VHS from our local video stores (back when they existed), but we never got to see them around the big screen where they belonged. But due to places like New Beverly Cinema, the Egyptian Theatre and Grauman's Chinese among other movie theatres, we finally get to discover their whereabouts the way they were can be seen.
Now I know lots of people who nowadays would prefer to curl up around the sofa watching movies in your own home, but these cult movies must be seen for the big screen if you're ever in Los Angeles.
"The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
This musical comedy horror cult classic which stars Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick and also the great Tim Curry being a "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania" will be the longest-running midnight movie of all time. Thirty-eight years after "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" came out, it is playing in limited release and midnight screenings keep taking place all over America. However, you've not lived until you have seen this movie in the Nuart Theatre in Santa Monica where audience members can dress up as their favorite characters and talk returning to the screen in a way they couldn't if it were some other movie. "The Room" continues to sell out midnight screenings on the Regent Theatre in Los Angeles, and you can always depend on Wiseau being there to perform a Q&A session with all the fans. Audience members come dressed as their best characters, one scene has them throwing plastic spoons at the screen, they even toss footballs together during the movie, and they yell out insults about the undeniably low quality of the film. There are so many things wrong with "The Room," and yet it is so much fun to watch with an audience.
"The Big Lebowski"
Joel and Ethan Coen followed up their masterpiece "Fargo" using this dark comedy starring Jeff Bridges as Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski. The movie would have been a box office disappointment, however it has since garnered among the biggest and strangest cult followings from a movie ever made due to the main character's unapologetically casual attitude. Screenings of "The Big Lebowski" is available at various Los Angeles movie theatres, but the real treat for fans is when the Lebowski Fest comes to town. The recent Lebowski Fest held on the Saban Theater and Fountain Bowl featured per night of unlimited bowling as well as various trivia contests. There was even a performance by The Kyle Gass Band which featured a special guest appearance by Jack Black as Evil Elvis. Oh yeah, they did show the movie there also.
"Scott Pilgrim vs. The World"
What "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is to the Nuart Theatre, "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" has quickly become to New Beverly Cinema. The still standing Los Angeles repertory revival house was the first one to show Edgar Wright's film after the end of the theatrical run, possesses since adopted a permanent midnight residence alongside "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction." Thanks to home video, "Big Trouble in Little China" gained a huge cult following, and audiences like it today in such a way that you wished they did back when it first became available. It's such a kick to look at this film with the audience as is also in hysterics over Kurt Russell delivering his dialogue with the unapologetic John Wayne swagger, and that we have long since accepted the truth that his character of Jack Burton is a bit more of a blowhard when compared to a hero. It doesn't matter how many times you have seen this movie; "Big Trouble in Little China" remains to be a blast to see through.
